Local and regional climate

Climate change is global, but the results will vary greatly from place to place and through different seasons. Some areas get increased warming in winter, others in summer. Some places will be wetter, others drier, and most areas will be exposed to more extreme weather.

In order to understand and predict the development of climate change, measurements made via satellites and via devices on land and at sea are analyzed. When using physical models, calculations are made with high spatial accuracy. We have a particular focus on climate change in the North Atlantic and in the Arctic. The aim is to create a better understanding of which factors affect the climate, and more precise forecasting of climate developments. We also research so-called teleconnections, which are connections between climate change in regions that are far apart. An example of this are the consequences of climate change in the Arctic for climate change on the Tibetan Plateau.
