Forecasts for up to ten years

The Nansen Center participates in the development of NorCPM, The Norwegian Climate Prediction Model, which is used to simulate future climate. We deliver warnings for periods of 1 to 10 years to, among others, the World Meteorological Organization, WMO.

The WMO publishes annual reports focusing on the global climate for the coming and next five years. NorCPM simulations are also used in the CMIP6-DCPP (Decadal Climate Prediction Project), where data from many international modelling centers are used in forecasts for likely climate developments in the coming years. Data from NorCPM were also used as a basis for the UN’s climate report no. 6. Here, global changes and consequences were highlighted in a ten-year perspective. Model data from NorCPM is also part of the “Impetus4Change” project. The project compiles information on the local consequences of climate change for cities.
