Climate

The Nansen Center is a central supplier of products and services for use in climate and environmental research. We develop model systems and produce forecasts that are used by national and international players. Our deliveries are important contributions to climate reports, condition reports, and forecasting services, and can be used as a basis for future environmental adaptations in most areas of society.

Future climateTo find out how we will face future climate change, it is necessary to understand how the climate system works and how we assume that the climate will change.

Forecasts for up to ten yearsThe Nansen Center participates in the development of NorCPM, The Norwegian Climate Prediction Model, which is used to simulate future climate. We deliver warnings for periods of 1 to 10 years to, among others, the World Meteorological Organization, WMO.

Past climateClimate models can be used to create reconstructions and studies of what the climate was like in the past.

Local forecastsFor high-resolution simulation of air circulation, we use the PALM model. We have specialist expertise in the use of this model, and offer simulations and result analyses in project collaboration, and on order.

Seasonal forecastsSeasonal forecasting is a relatively new field of research, which will meet a growing administrative and societal need for relevant, advanced, and applicable forecasts for longer periods than ordinary weather forecasts.
