Victoria Miles

Researcher

Victoria Miles studied forestry and geography and obtained  her PhD at St. Petersburg State University (Russia) in 1998.

Miles has 25 years of experience in environmental studies, remote sensing, and geographic information systems. Her most recent work is related to local and regional vegetation change, the effects of the Arctic urban climate and urban sustainability. Her current research questions are on how the warmer climate in the Arctic cities affects the citizens and the local nature. They also address the impact of urban heat islands in northern cities – places not associated with heat, but where temperature differences between paved areas and the surrounding forest and tundra can be significant. She is also developing WebGIS, Web StoryMaps, and citizen observation apps for urban areas.
