DASIM II

The project "Data assimilation for sea-ice models on adaptive non-conservative meshes" has for the first time demonstrated the application of the EnKF to the Lagrangian Arctic version of the neXtSIM model which assimilates satellite products of sea-ice concentrations and sea-ice thickness over the winter from October 2019 to April 2020.

AMTEC

The project "Arctic-Midlatitude Teleconnections and Eurasian Cooling" aimed to collect literature regarding cooling in winters in Europe and Asia and its connection with sea ice in the Arctic.

UAK

The main goal of the "Useful Arctic Knowledge" project has been to establish long-term cooperation between teaching and research institutions in Norway, the USA and Canada within selected themes in the Arctic.

EMULATE

Large-scale air movements in the atmosphere are of great importance for the climate, especially at regional level. The way the calculation methods for predicting the climate include the movements is not without errors. The project "Enhancing mechanistic understanding of mid-latitude large-scale circulation errors" reduced these errors and increased the understanding of the movements.

ARCPATH

In the project "Arctic Climate Predictions - Pathways to Resilient, Sustainable Societies", researchers combined knowledge of regional climate warnings and socio-economic change in the Arctic to support responsible and sustainable development in the region.

CHEX

The project "Climate hazards and extremes" produced information on future climate hazards and extremes with great relevance for the development of guidelines from decision-makers, industrial and financial players and local authorities.

ALERTNESS

The project "Advanced models and weather prediction in the Arctic: Enhanced capacity from observations and polar process representations" developed methods and tools to produce better and more reliable weather forecasts for arctic areas. The focus was on events of great importance to the local population.

RISES

Ice covered all of Scandinavia approximately 13,000 years ago. It melted over time, and the project "Quantifying and understanding rates of ice sheet change" investigated how this happened in order to make estimates of how the Greenland ice sheet will melt in the future.

TOPVOYS

The project "Tools for optimizing performance of voyages at sea" worked on improving and implementing tools to make ship traffic safer, more environmentally friendly and optimized with regard to the weather, fuel consumption, emissions and minimal travel time.
