NMDC

The "Norwegian Marine Data Centre" is a national data infrastructure that provides access to marine data and observations for sea areas of interest to Norway. The Nansen Center contributes with expertise in scientific data handling and formatting and with its own data from the Arctic Ocean.

SIDRiFT

The Arctic is changing and the sea ice in particular is changing rapidly. The project "Sea Ice Deformation and Snow for an Arctic in Transition" will estimate how strong the sea-ice deformation has been in recent years. Old and new satellite observations are used to find out.

AI4ARCTIC

In the project "AI4 Arctic challenge automatic sea ice charting", artificial intelligence is used to improve both snow mapping in Scandinavia and sea-ice mapping in the sea around Greenland.

HAVNIVÅ KSS 2022

The project "Norsk Klimaservicesenter (KSS) Sea level project: Facilitating and disseminating knowledge about sea level rise" aims to produce input for a report on sea level rise in Norway, which will be part of the report on climate change in Norway. The report is published by the Directorate of the Environment. The input on sea level changes comes from observations and calculations and a major focus is on storm surges and extreme waves.

CAATEX

Sound can be used to measure the temperature of the ocean. The project "Coordinated Arctic Acoustic Thermometry Experiment" assessed the temperature of the Arctic Ocean for one year using acoustic thermometry to improve our knowledge of how much heat the ocean holds.

MOIRA

Cracks and ridges in sea ice are found everywhere in the Arctic. They vary in width, length, height and where and how often they appear. These features are possibly linked to ice movement processes. The project "Model for Sea Ice Radar Image Microstructure" studies this connection using satellite images.

DASIM II

The project "Data assimilation for sea-ice models on adaptive non-conservative meshes" has for the first time demonstrated the application of the EnKF to the Lagrangian Arctic version of the neXtSIM model which assimilates satellite products of sea-ice concentrations and sea-ice thickness over the winter from October 2019 to April 2020.

NCKS

AMTEC

The project "Arctic-Midlatitude Teleconnections and Eurasian Cooling" aimed to collect literature regarding cooling in winters in Europe and Asia and its connection with sea ice in the Arctic.

UAK

The main goal of the "Useful Arctic Knowledge" project has been to establish long-term cooperation between teaching and research institutions in Norway, the USA and Canada within selected themes in the Arctic.
