AOIP

The processes that take place between the atmosphere, the ocean and the sea ice are important for the climate in and near the polar regions. The project "Atmosphere-Ocean-Ice Interactions in Polar and sub-polar Regions" assessed how necessary it is to include these in the best possible way in NorESM, the earth system model from Bergen.

FYB

The purpose of the activity "Float Your Boat" is to increase understanding of climate processes, the Arctic and the importance of research through the active involvement of schoolchildren.

Blue-Action

The project "Blue-Action: Arctic impact on weather and climate" investigated the effects that the Arctic has on the weather and climate. The focus of the research was the northern hemisphere and the findings help to produce better weather forecasts and long-term forecasts of the changes in the climate.

Marine data i Arktis

The project aimed to create a dynamic overview of the systems that observe the Arctic Ocean and that manage data to make it easier to find and use marine data from the Arctic.

VOLCANOES4CMIP

Gases from volcanic eruptions affect the climate, but are not sufficiently included in climate forecasts for the future. The project "Applying volcanic impacts to future CMIP projections" developed methods to account for these in climate models to improve the accuracy of the forecasts.

NEXTGEOSS

In the project "Next Generation GEOSS for Innovation Business", a centralized hub and platform was built to collect data from European Earth observation systems and provide easy access to these.

FRASIL

Cracks in sea ice affect sea water, temperature, and biological activity in the Arctic, but they are difficult to simulate with sea-ice models. The project "Fractal properties of sea ice leads and their impact on the Arctic physical and biological environments" worked to find out more about how accidents and their effects can be simulated in a reliable way.

REDDA

Is it possible, by using only a reduced, optimally selected, subset of data, despite the size of the problem, to achieve a satisfactory description of the climate system at a lower cost? The project "Reduced subspace in big data treatment: A new paradigm for efficient geophysical data assimilation" will answer this question.

NFR-INTAROS

The INTAROS project, which is financed through the Horizon2020 programme, received support to expand Norwegian participation. Norwegian networks between actors in research, administration and industry linked to Arctic observation systems were established.

InterDec

Warming in the Arctic and cold winters on the northern continents are linked, and the ocean also plays a role. The connections are not yet fully understood. The project "InterDec - The potential of seasonal-to-decadal-scale inter-regional linkages to advance climate predictions" has looked at the connections.
