ORBITAS

The main objective of the project "Orbit impact on sea-level trend and acceleration stability uncertainty" is to evaluate how a new reference orbit for Sentinel-6 Next Generation will impact the current mean sea level uncertainty.

FRACCEO

The project "Flood Risk Assessment in a Changing Climate for Cities using EO" focuses on the development of a methodology that combines Earth Observation data, specifically the Essential Climate Variable datasets from the ESA Climate Change Initiative programmes, with hydrodynamic models to improve the prediction of extreme water levels at the coast and subsequently the assessment of flood risk in coastal cities under climate change.

DRAGON6

"DRAGON 6 - Lofoten eddies on Atlantic Water" is a collaborative program between ESA and MOST (Ministry of Science and Technology) in China with a focus on using measurements from satellites (Copernicus Sentinels, ESA, Chinese) in geoscience and monitoring. There are Chinese and European collaborative teams participating that address different topics within Earth system research, including oceanography, meteorology, geology, ecosystem, environment and climate.

COASTALDYN

The project addresses key scientific and observational challenges in understanding coastal ocean dynamics. The project "Coastal Dynamics Land-Ocean" aims combine data from the growing European Earth Observation satellite fleet, particularly Sentinel missions, combined with in-situ observations and advanced algorithms and IA techniques, to develop high-resolution, multi-mission products describing coastal dynamics, e.g., sea level, currents, wind, AND waves.

GYRED

The large-scale circulation in the North Atlantic Ocean is a key in regulating climate by the northward throughput of warm and salty waters within the upper branch of the the Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation (AMOC). The "Gyre-induced variability in North Atlantic circulation - dynamics and impacts on overturning" project seeks to determine how the main gyre structures affect variability in AMOC and the poleward transport of heat within the extended Gulf Stream system.

RASI

The Arctic is warming rapidly, making targeted cooling strategies essential. In the project "Re-thickening Arctic Sea Ice", researchers will investigate sea ice re-thickening methods to enhance ice thickness and reflectivity, potentially mitigating climate change. By integrating climate modeling and engaging with local ecosystems, the project aims to develop scalable, environmentally friendly solutions to preserve Arctic sea ice.

ENRICH

The objective of the "Engaging researchers and coastal population in communicating Oceanʼs role on Human Health" (ENRICH) project is to engage researchers and the coastal population to effectively communicate and disseminate research-based knowledge on climate related changes in the ocean and its implications on human health vulnerability.

NorESM4CMIP7

The project "Norwegian Earth System Modeling for CMIP7" will prepare and calibrate NorESM to conduct core simulation of the Climate Model Intercomparison Project 7 (CMIP7), which is pivotal for climate change assessments such as the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. It will perform sensitivity experiments to provide robust, international scientific consensus on required emissions reductions to meet the Paris Agreement Targets.

INES2

The project "Infrastructure for Norwegian Earth System modelling phase 2" (INES2) will provide infrastructure for the Norwegian Earth System Model (NorESM) – e.g. documentation, efficiency, storage and validation. It will allow NorESM to comply with the high standards of the climate community and advance the capabilities to address a complex set of questions needed for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change as well as the development of Climate services.

SICAP

The "Sea Ice model Calibration for improved Arctic Predictions" project aims to develop an innovative parameters optimization tool for sea-ice models, with two distinct tuning algorithms - the Green's Function and the Dual One-Step-Ahead Ensemble Smoother. This tool will improve the quality of Arctic sea ice predictions and regional/global reanalyses and extend the contribution to the Copernicus Marine Service portfolio.
