MuSIC

Our sea-ice model neXtSIM receives quality assurance through adaptation of the model to satellite observations and through the use of new machine learning methods in the "Multi-scale sea ice code" project. The model has great potential to represent sea-ice conditions in the best possible way and can improve climate models that struggle with realistic representation of sea ice.

SASIP

In the "Scale-Aware Sea Ice Project", a new way of modeling sea ice is being developed. Producing high-resolution and large-scale predictions of sea ice will lead to a better understanding of how increased warming affects polar regions. This project is supported by Schmidt Futures, a philanthropic initiative founded by Eric and Wendy Schmidt that bets early on exceptional people making the world better, particularly through innovative breakthroughs in science and technology. It is a project of Schmidt Futures' Virtual Earth System Research Institute (VESRI).

SMART OCEAN

The center for research-driven innovation "Smart Ocean" is developing a new underwater sensor and communication system along the Norwegian coastline to improve the sustainable management of marine resources, industrial equipment and structure in these regions.

Cryo-TEMPO

The European satellite mission CryoSat-2 has been circling the world since 2010. The satellite sends a lot of useful information, especially from the polar regions. In the project "CryoSat-2 thematic products", products are developed to use the satellite data in the best possible way. The products will help improve research on sea ice, land ice, polar seas, coastal seas and lakes.

CLIMATE FUTURES

"Climate Futures" is a center for Research-based Innovation that aims to produce new and innovative solutions to be able to predict and manage climate risks from ten days to ten years in the future. Stakeholders from various fields such as insurance, shipping, agriculture, fisheries, hydropower, public agencies and more, work closely together in the project.

CoRea

In order to understand what leads to variations in the climate and what proportion is man-made, information from back in time is needed. The project "Coupled reanalysis of the climate back to 1850" will create a look back at the climate (a reanalysis) from 1850 to today - 170 years, with a major focus on changes in the sea.

WOC

Increased knowledge of ocean currents in the upper part of the ocean is important to work towards safe sea traffic, to make the fishing industry more sustainable, to utilize energy from the sea and to monitor marine pollution. The "World Ocean Circulation" project aims to obtain more accurate and user-useful information about ocean currents from satellites, models and ocean measurements. Actors from the various user sectors participate in the project.
