PARCIM

In the project "Proxy assimilation for reconstructing climate and improving model", a review of the climate in the last 1000 years is developed using completely new methods. The data set shall be available online and shall also be used to study variations in the climate during this period and to be able to improve climate models.

TARDIS

The thickness of sea ice in the Arctic is important for climate research. Since 2010, satellites have been used to measure the ice thickness from space, but before 2010 there was not enough good information. The project "Thickness of Arctic sea ice reconstructed by data assimilation and artificial intelligence seamlessly" will change this. The aim is to reconstruct the thickness of Arctic sea ice as it was before 2010.

EDITO ModelLab

The ocean plays an important role in the climate context. To make knowledge and information about the ocean more accessible to the general public, the project "Underlying models for the European Digital Twin Ocean" is building a virtual ocean lab. It must be openly accessible and give everyone the opportunity to better analyze and understand data from the sea.

CCI + SSS

How salty the sea surface is has an impact on the global ocean circulation, the water cycle and the climate. The amount of salt can be measured from space with satellites. The project "Climate Change Initiative Extension Phase 2 - Sea Surface Salinity" will produce highly reliable information about salt over the entire sea surface in the period 2010-2019. The data set will support research on e.g., the climate.

O2Ocean

Between 1960 and 2010, the oxygen content in the world's oceans decreased. This negatively affects the habitat for marine animals such as fish. The project "O₂Ocean: The breathing ocean" aims to find out why calculation methods are not yet able to represent this decline and thus contribute to an improved estimate of oxygen in the ocean.

SeaPR

Sea levels are rising worldwide, a change that threatens more and more regions. In the project "Sea level predictions and reconstructions", important gaps in sea level research will be filled. A particular spotlight is also placed on the northern high latitudes.

SAR DIGITAL ICE TWIN

In the project "Synergy of SAR, radiometry, and altimetry for Digital Arctic Sea Ice Twin", the researchers improve sea ice warnings by using different satellite data sets. There must be a focus on small scales.

SLBC CCI+

In the project "Climate change initiative sea level budget closure follow-on", research is conducted on the global sea level budget, and we focus on the Nordic seas and the Arctic Ocean.

NorHAB-ML

Harmful algae blooms happen when specific algae produce toxins. They have impacts on both human health and on the economy of aquacultures. The project “Machine learning for prediction and projection of harmful algae blooms hazards” (NorHAB-ML) aims to enhance the accuracy of predicting harmful algae blooms (HABs). In particular, the project will develop a new algorithm for improving the accuracy of remote sensing on the Norwegian shelf and using coastal modelling products. NorHAB-ML aims to predict HABs harmful for aquaculture accurately, as well as high biomass bloom that can be harmful to fisheries. The geographic focus lies on the Norwegian coastal and shelf waters.

ARKTALAS CCN 2

The "Arktalas Hoavva" project characterizes large-scale interactive processes and feedbacks that cause changes in the Arctic sea ice and the Arctic Ocean and the surrounding oceans using satellite observations, direct observations and modeling tools.
