Tarkeshwar Singh

Researcher

Tarkeshwar Singh is a data assimilation scientist and obtained his PhD at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India in 2018.

Singh works on improving weather and climate prediction. Predicting weather and climate as accurately as possible is highly relevant for society on many levels.  He combines observations (real-world data) with simulations (data produced by numerical models) using data assimilation methods. He explores the application of advanced data assimilation methods for several Earth-system components; ocean, biogeochemistry, and the atmosphere. During his PhD, he worked on improving the prediction of the Indian summer monsoon with data assimilation. At the Nansen Center, Singh is part of the team developing the Norwegian Climate Prediction Model (NorCPM) – which is used to better understand our past, present, and future climate. His current work includes developing a new flexible data assimilation framework to improve the accuracy of an ocean biogeochemical model by tuning its parameters using observations.
