Lia Herrmannsdörfer

Researcher

Lia Herrmannsdörfer is a meteorologist with additional experience on ocean, sea ice and icebergs. She is obtaining her PhD at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU, Norway) in 2026.

Herrmannsdörfer studies the interaction of atmosphere, ocean and ice in the Arctic. She is specialised on the analysis of atmosphere-, ocean- and ice-model outputs, but also works with in-situ and satellite data across various spatial scales. In her Master’s thesis she compared model, in-situ and satellite data of the sea-ice surface temperature from the MOSAiC expedition. In her PhD studies, she analysed the dependency of iceberg drift simulations on the input atmosphere, ocean, and sea-ice data.

At the Nansen Center, she works with the iceberg drift model “OpenBerg” in the project “ACCIBERG”.
