Akhilesh Nair

Researcher

Akhilesh S. Nair is a hydroclimatologist who obtained his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (India) in 2021.

His research focuses on land–atmosphere interactions during dry extremes, with a special interest in understanding climate impacts on the terrestrial water cycle. During his PhD, he utilised remote sensing, land surface modeling, and data assimilation to advance understanding in these areas. His key research focus remains on improving our knowledge of dry extremes and enhancing the prediction of heatwaves and droughts.

At the Nansen Center, Nair is working on land data assimilation within the climate model NorCPM and the earth system model NorESM to investigate how land initialisation improves the skill of NorCPM at subseasonal to seasonal scales.
