Mathilde Berger

PhD Fellow

Mathilde Berger obtained her master’s degree in Ocean Data Sciences from the University of Western Brittany in 2026, in parallel with her engineering degree from IMT Atlantique in Brest (France).

Berger’s research interest focuses on climate modeling using machine learning. She is motivated by the challenge of understanding and predicting climate changes, particularly the ocean’s role in it. Her PhD project is about building a data-driven generative emulator of the coupled ice-ocean-biogeochemical TOPAZ model. The focus is on assessing the emulator’s reliability: whether the error bars derived from the ensemble spread encompass the actual errors or not.
