Kim Monoury-Homet
Research Assistant
After high school Kim Monoury-Homet studied physics and mathematics for two years. Then she entered the engineering school named ENSG géomatique where she learns how to acquire, process and analyze geospatial data such as satellite data. After her second year at ENSG géomatique, she started a double diploma with ENSTA Bretagne in Brest, France. There, she learned about hydrography: the use of echosounders or other instruments to determine the seabed, water column, and surface characteristics. And then during the last year at ENSTA, she joined the master program in offshore physical oceanography at IUEM (European Institute for Marine Studies)a in Brest, France.
She is interested in the link between physics and biology, with a focus on the ocean. She joined the Ocean Training Course 2025 on board the tall ship Statsraad Lehmkuhl to study phytoplankton bloom dynamics. Her internship at the Nansen Center focuses on studying the impact of the 2010s freshening of the Norwegian Sea and Atlantic Eastern Subpolar Gyre on phytoplankton blooms. In the process, she will update a data aggregation, validation, and analysis tool, and then use it to validate biogeochemistry data derived from models to use in her research.
